We're all about the hero in New York City, but when it's this cold out, and with the threat of snow this weekend, we're not so psyched about a cold sandwich.
And, apparently, neither is Alidoro.
After decades of adamantly refusing to sway from their beliefs that 'the only good Italian hero is a cold Italian hero,' Alidoro is now offering ten hot heroes at their midtown location.
After 30 years of business, Alidoro, which was formerly Melampo, is offering ten hot Italian heroes due to Walter Momente's (a partner in the sandwich venture) hot-hero techniques.
The sandwiches will be made in a TurboChef Tornado, an oven that simultaneously uses microwave heat and radiant heat to cook both the inside and the outside of the sandwich quickly without altering the quality of the ingredients.
Contrary to a panini press, this method will brown the sandwich without squishing the sandwich in the hopes that by grilling the outside, the interior will warm as well.

The hot heroes include their sandwiches like "La Porchetta," which comes with porchetta, provolone, sweet peppers, and arugula; and their "Pinocchio," with prosciutto, sopressata, fresh mozzarella, sweet roasted peppers, and olive paste.
